Words are extremely important to God.

And, therefore, to you, as well.

God created the universe by words.

God revealed information about Himself, people and creation using words. That is, in the Bible. He did not give us images.

God chose the foolish method of preaching the Gospel to save people (1 Corinthians 1:18-29). The Gospel is to be preached. Therefore, words.

God caused people to speak multiple languages to keep them from doing all they imagined to do. It was by words they would have been able to accomplish many things.

Genesis 11:5-7 KJV

[5] And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

[6] And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

[7] Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Notice all that has been achieved in the last few years, once English became a worldwide language.

Many verses in the Bible instruct us regarding talking. For example, talking starts “fires.”

James 3:5-6 KJV

[5] Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

[6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Consider California wildfires. Once started, they are almost impossible to stop. And they do enormous damage. Words start similar “fires.”

Our use of words is a big difference between humans and animals.

Choose your words carefully, as they are much more important than you may believe. God cares much about each word.

Matthew 12:36-37 KJV

[36] But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

[37] For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

“Idle” = empty, pointless, without purpose.

People everywhere, especially church people, just parrot what they hear. They do not understand what they say. This is an example of idle words. If you doubt this, ask them what they mean and see what they say. For instance, I have heard time and time again people say we must obey in the spirit and not in the flesh. I have asked many what this means and how to do it, without getting any answer that makes sense.
