Colossians 2:13 KJV
[13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
1 John 2:12 KJV
[12] I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
All the sins of those who are saved were forgiven at the moment they got saved.
1 John 1:9 KJV
[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
This is apparently written to saved people. Why would they need to confess their sins to get forgiven, if they were forgiven of all their sins when they got saved?
God forgives in two different ways. Unsaved people are condemned, and need to be forgiven by God the Judge, to avoid suffering the penalty of God's wrath. However, once they get saved, God is their Father. When they sin, they need Fatherly forgiveness.
