author

Updated: Jan 5

Love Is not an emotion, and it is not actions, as many people claim.

Love is an affection.

According to an older definition of "affection," it is

"…the state of being affected"

Merriam-Webster dictionary. 2024.

History and etymology of "affection."

"Middle English affeccioun 'capacity for feeling, emotion, desire, love,'

from affec-(variant stem of afficere 'to produce an effect on, exert an influence on')"

Merriam-Webster dictionary. 2024.

Romans 12:10 KJV

[10] Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Love is having great concern and caring much for someone's well-being. So whatever happens to them affects you greatly. It affects your emotions and it affects your behavior. It causes them both. But it is neither of these two things.

People love their families, but their love is not constantly causing them emotions or behavior. They love their families even when they are just sitting down reading a book and not thinking about them. Yet, just a short phone call could instantly change that to extreme emotions and behavior.
