Impossible to renew unto repentance.

author

Hebrews 6:4-6 KJV

[4] For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

[5] And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

[6] If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Most "church people,” whether saved or not,

-have been enlightened somewhat (by the Bible),

-have tasted of the grace of God ("the heavenly gift") in many forms, time and time again (as all people have, whether they are saved or not),

-have shared in ("partook of") the Holy Spirit (for example, John 16.8-11),

-have experienced ("tasted") at least some of the truths of Gods Word,

and

-have also experienced the powers of the world to come (for example, the Holy Spirit).

It seems this Scripture in Hebrews refers to a type of unsaved person, one who has all kinds of grace given to them, but, in spite of all this

grace, rejects salvation. Over time, their correct thinking degrades into corrupt thinking, and they never get back to believing the truth. Most churches are full of this kind of unsaved person. Of course, these people swear they are saved, and would never question it. They would be greatly offended if you questioned their salvation.
