John 19:25-28 KJV
[25] Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
[26] When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
[27] Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
[28] After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
Jesus honored His mother, by making sure she would be taken care of after He was dead. Even though He was doing the most important work ever done by a human. On the cross, He was receiving the horrible penalty for people's sins, so they could get saved from God‘s wrath. Suffering the most intense pain of all kinds. Yet He turned His attention to His mother and to honoring her.
Jesus showed us how important it is to honor our parents. The commandment to honor parents is in both the Old and New Testaments.
Exodus 20:12 KJV
[12] Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Ephesians 6:2 KJV
[2] Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
Notice, the commandment is not, keep from dishonoring your parents. We must honor them. This involves taking action. It is a sin to just be neutral.
