Emotions rather than reason.

author

Much of preaching is designed to cause certain momentary emotions. Rather than to get people to reason things out, and then make permanent changes to their lives. So people are enthusiastic about God for a short time, but as theur feelings fade away, so does their devotion to God.

Emotions follow godly lives, but godly lives must come first.

1 Samuel 12:7 KJV

[7] Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

Ecclesiastes 7:25 KJV

[25] I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:

Acts 24:24-25 KJV

[24] And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ.

[25] And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

Notice, Felix trembled after Paul reasoned.
