1 Corinthians 11:29-30 KJV
[29] For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
[30] For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
Christians become weak, get sick, and even die, because they do not discern the body. Some Christians at Corinth were not sharing their food and drink with other Christians who did not have food and drink. Those who did not share failed to discern that all Christians make up one body, the body of Jesus. The Corinthians were considering others in the church to be just people, rather than parts of the body of Christ.
If one part of the body suffers, the whole body suffers. If one part of the body suffers, the rest of the body must alleviate that suffering. If you cut your finger, the finger that is cut cannot put on the Band-Aid. It requires the other hand.
Discerning the body requires identifying those who are part of the body and those who are not. How do you distinguish them? By their fruit or lack of fruit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Luke 6:43-44 KJV
[43] For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
[44] For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
Christians must not treat apparently unsaved people the same as saved people. That would be failing to discern the body. It is common in so-called churches to pretend that everyone who claims to be saved actually is. That is not discerning the body. Perhaps that is why these organizations' prayer lists are full of requests for sick people.
