Romans 3:23 KJV
[23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
“Come short of the glory of God.” What does this mean?
Glory is excellence, wonderfulness. It is superior, exceptional value. Glory is brilliantly outstanding--standing out so as to be readily perceived or noted.
No one or nothing is more glorious than God. Not even close.
Being like God is the optimal way to be. It gets no better than that. God made people in their image to be like God and to live like God does. However, sinning ruins all that. Sinning causes people to live way below optimal.
In this verse, God revealed the connection between sinning and poor quality of life. Because people do not see the connection, they believe these two things are unrelated. However, God assures us they are cause and effect.
For example,
1 Corinthians 11:29-30 KJV
[29] For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
[30] For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
