Bible “contradictions and errors.“

I picked a few so-called contradictions from this webpage to consider.

101 Contradictions In The Bible

Most of the contradictions can be easily resolved by considering the following.

1. Not one or the other, but both.

"Contradiction

46. The Gospels say that Jesus cursed a fig tree. Did the tree wither at once?

(a) Yes. (Matthew 21:19)

(b) No. It withered overnight (Mark 11:20)"

Both could be true. It could have withered at once, and continued withering overnight. Or there could be two different fig trees.

Most contradictions fall into this category.

2. There are different kinds of things. For example, there are different kinds of cars.

Here is a seeming contradiction, that many point out.

Romans 3:28 KJV

[28] Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

James 2:24 KJV

[24] Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

There are different kinds of faith. Not all faith in Jesus justifies. Having faith in Jesus as, for example, a carpenter (Mark 6:3) or a cook (John 21:9-10) would not justify anyone.

Many verses in the Bible describe the precise kind of faith in Jesus that justifies. James reveals that one characteristic of the faith that justifies is it causes good works.

In addition, the Bible reveals there is more than one kind of forgiveness, sorrow and repentance, for example.

3. God does some things by means of people.

Hebrews 1:1 KJV

[1] God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Psalm 127:1 KJV

[1] Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

"Contradiction

37. How did Simon Peter find out that Jesus was the Christ?

  1. By a revelation from heaven (Matthew 16:17)

  2. His brother Andrew told him (John 1:41)"

It was revealed from heaven by Andrew.

4. A word can have more than one meaning.

Contradiction

30. Who was the father of Uzziah?

  1. Joram (Matthew 1:8)

  2. Amaziah (2 Chronicles 26:1)

"Father" can mean father or ancestor.

Luke 1:59 KJV

[59] And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

Genesis 15:15 KJV

[15] And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.

5. Prophets wrote and said things not recorded in the Bible.

Most of what they said is not in the Scriptures.

This is supposedly an error.

Matthew 2:23 KJV

[23] And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

No Scripture contains the prophecy, "He shall be called a Nazarene." Yet prophets still could have said it.
