We.

It is common in sermons for preachers to say we all commit certain sins. For example,

"We all worry."

"We are all anxious at times."

"We all hate to be corrected by God's word."

However, everyone does not commit the same sins. Is everyone a homosexual? A murderer?

It is insulting to people who do not commit these sins. It is said without justification, without knowledge of the people's lives.

Also, "we" includes the preacher. They are saying they too commit these sins. It seems hypocritical to criticize something they themselves do.

Here is an example of this at a church I recently attended. This church really adheres to the Bible most of the time.

CONGREGATION CONFESSION OF SIN

Almighty God, though you have raised us up to new life, we continue to walk as though spiritually dead; though you call our minds to things above, we are more interested in things below; though you have promised us many unseen riches, we are content with the poverty we can see.
